WHAT CHANNEL IDENTS IS? 
What Do They Have In Common?

What is Channel Idents?
A Channel Ident is something that is used to brand the channel in a unique way. It last up 15-30 seconds. It also gives the chance to knowledge the audience of what programmes are coming up next and keep them intrested.

1) All of the channel indents for example Ch.BBC One Ch.BBC Two and Channel 4 all have their specific logo always shown to remind the viewer what channel their on and they all have their own identities to brand their channel and make it unique and the channels own so that when the viewers sees the logo they instantly remember what channel it is. All of the channels idents all have a first clear message of what the channel stands for such as channel 4 the indents are very out their and different because viewers know that channel 4 are controversial and will do something out of the box to make their brand stand out from other TV channels. Whereas Channel 1 is more of a family channel so there indents appeal to all sort of different things which captivates there type of audiences. There idents always appeals to the kind of audience that the channel appeals to and who they want it to appeal to. Sometimes music is including in the background. Channel Idents usually place their logo in the centre and use bright colours.


The Purposes of Channel Idents

The Viewers
2) Channel Idents usually remind the audience what channel their on or what programmes are coming next by the channels doing this it captivates the audience and makes the viewer want to stay on the channel for what's next to come on and this helps to brand the channel and get people watching. It also helps to guide the viewer. Channel Idents also help the viewers to know where they are and because now their are more varieties of channels the viewer constantly has to be reminded where they are. They also do this because if the viewer is not interested immediately they switch off and go on something else that is why channels try their best to make it unique and stand out from other channels.
 


BRANDING
Channels also want to really brand their channels so they have different links such as radio, different other TV links such as (BBC ONE, BBC TWO, BBC THREE & BBC FOUR) and also (Channel 4, E4, 4seven, More4) so that the viewers have guidance of what they are watching which just expands their brand even more. Within the channel idents they also have to make sure they sum what the channel is about in the idents there characteristics and what their channel is all about which helps to also brand the TV channel. The Ident also has to be very different and something they have never seen before so that the channel gets recgonise  years later as it being that channels specific ident and make it memorable.
 

IDENTITY
The identity of the channel is also very important because the channel wants to be remembered in their viewers head and stand out from their the rest of them. So Idents have become more important than ever because there are many more channels they each channel has to compete so now of channels are spending a lot of money on Idents just so it can stand and stick in peoples head so when seeing they will know what channel it is. Such as Channel 4 they are so different and diverse from any other channel so the Ident is original and unique its own way or BBC THREE they use the channel idents to introduce new programmes.
